After Delaroche

From Delaroche’s Execution of Lady Jane Grey, the women evolved into lap dancers. When I drew these (3 Dancers after Delaroche) ten or so years ago, many dancers who were interviewed described experiencing power through the attention they received from men.

In Living Dolls, Natasha Walters wrote lucidly of how young girls are groomed by an increasingly sexist culture that hands back their brainwashing as ‘choice.’ Many women now march out in defence of their effacement, sold to them as liberation/empowerment.
